As a rule of thumb, we suggest you divide your ceiling height by 2 to give you the space required between each downlight. For example if your ceiling is 8 foot high, then position your lights 4 feet apart. We recommend a downlight with a power consumption of 10-13W for ambient lighting in homes with ceiling heights of 2.4M to 3.2M. In light output terms (lumens and lux), these downlights will generally have a range of lumen output from around 700 lumens to 1100 lumens. Lux is measured in lumens per square metre. Kitchens require a minimum of 300 average lux. Living rooms and bathrooms require 150 average lux and bedrooms only need to have an average of 100 lux.
